Who I am

I’m Anthony — Hi! I bring to my consulting practice a distinguished academic career marked by internationally-acclaimed scholarship, leadership, and a deep commitment to student success. Having received my doctorate at Emory University in 2006, I have been a tenured full professor of philosophy living and teaching in Rhode Island since 2012. Before that, I held assistant professorships at Xavier University and the City University of New York, and visiting research positions at Humboldt Universität of Berlin, Radboud Universiteit in Nijmegen, and Technische Universität in Berlin. I directed my College’s International Education Program in Rome in 2018-9 and won its ‘Outstanding Faculty Scholar’ award in 2020. I am a life member of Clare Hall College at Cambridge University, UK.

I have published widely in the history of philosophy, with five books and over seventy articles, anthology chapters, translations, reviews, and encyclopedia articles. My work has been translated into French, Italian, German, Portuguese, and Chinese. I have delivered conference keynote addresses throughout Asia, South America, and Europe. I have been awarded research fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar, the Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry, and the Fulbright Foundation.

More than research accolades, I bring to my consulting a sympathetic understanding of unorthodox scholarly journeys. Raised by a single mother in small-town Wisconsin, I had academic ambitions, but little guidance on how to achieve them. To put it frankly: I got lucky. By chance, I happened upon mentors who helped guide me through undergraduate and graduate schools. Later, department colleagues and administrators showed me the inside workings of their institutions as I made my way through the professorship. Now with more than twenty years of working in universities throughout the US and Europe, I want to pass along this knowledge to students and families by giving expert, personalized guidance at every stage of the college admissions process and beyond. My approach is informed by a humble beginning and by a global academic perspective, a passion for mentoring and a proven record of service —I aim to help each student discover their strengths, set out on their own scholarly journey, and achieve their educational goals.
